Cleansing 101

Written for Organic Tree Juice Bar 2014

It seems like everyone’s talking about cleanses these days—but what exactly is a cleanse? Why are cleanses important? What are the benefits?  And perhaps the biggest question: is it worth all the effort?

Watermelon juice is cleansing, hydrating and refreshing. Try garnishing with a mint leaf.

Our digestive systems are constantly on the go; busy breaking down every meal and snack we eat during the day. We hardly realize it, but a large amount of our energy is used to digest and absorb the food we eat. What if there was a way to redirect that energy and use it do some repair work in our bodies (while giving the digestive system a little time to reset)?

Juice fasting is a perfect way to do exactly that. At Organic Tree, we’ve developed a Three Day Juice Cleanse.  This fast/cleanse/yoga-retreat is led by Diana Christinson of Pacific Ashtanga Yoga Shala. It combines fresh Organic Tree juices with yoga, group meetings, and a guidebook to help foster a clearer mind, body and spirit.

Cleansing is just as it sounds –  a cleaning out of your body —which means no food, no alcohol, no caffeine.  However, you’re allowed as much water, caffeine-free tea, and fresh, Organic Tree juice as you need. Most people who go on The Cleanse drink between three and four 32-ounce mason jars per day. Digesting juice requires almost no energy and your cells can start using the nutrients within 15 minutes. Your body can then take the energy usually reserved for digestion and use it to clean out toxins, repair cells, and otherwise rejuvenate your system.

Organic Tree supplies two types of juices for The Three Day Cleanse: The Oz and The Emerald. Both juices are staples on the regular menu and are served in 12-ounce cups or 32-ounce mason jars. They contain different combinations of celery, kale, spinach, parsley, and ginger plus apple and lemon (the use of organic apple and lemon juices as they appear in Organic Tree juices has been approved by Diana). Both flavors can be tailored to your unique palette, so that your cleanse is as tantalizing for your taste buds as it is for the rest of your body.

Three days without food is a big commitment. Is it worth it? We definitely think so.

Diana lists the benefits of juice fasting in her book (which is included in the Three Day Juice Cleanse Program).

Some of the benefits she mentions are:

    • o Clearer skin
    • o Appearance of age reversal
    • o Cleaner body
    • o Organ rest
    • o Weight loss
    • o Improved flexibility
    • o Improved fertility
    • o Decreased stress
    • o Stable moods
    • o Increased sense of taste
    • o Increased productivity
    • o Energy
    • o Creativity
    • o More relaxed state
    • o Spiritual awakening

When you’re cleansing, you can expect to feel more energetic. Your mind will become clearer. You’re senses will feel sharper too. You will be more relaxed and have more focus in your life. And the best part—those things stay with you when the cleanse is over.

Consider it like a tune up for your body.
